Emery Hurst Mikel, ATR-BC, LCAT, LCPAT
received her master’s degree in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology: Art Therapy in 2007 from Naropa University. She then began her journey into self-employment in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
To meet a need she saw in senior’s lives, Emery began a contract art therapy business that grew to include over twenty facilities, serving adults, seniors, and those living with Alzheimer’s disease. To assist others wanting to do similar work she wrote a book, The Art of Business: A Guide for Creative Arts Therapists Starting on a Path to Self-Employment, that was published by Jessica Kingsley Publishers in 2013. She has supervised interns and is a guest lecturer on Transpersonal Psychology and Art Therapy in the MA, Art Therapy program at George Washington University.
Currently, she resides in Brooklyn, NY where she is adjunct faculty in the MPS Art Therapy program at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan. She also works in the VNSNY Hospice Program, has a private practice, and mentors creative arts therapists nationwide.
